What trip to Sydney is complete without a trip to the famous Bondi Beach!! On a recent visit I travelled from Sydney centre to Bondi 4 times...it is beautiful.
There is a direct bus service (333) running from Circular Quay, Sydney's centre which takes you to Bondi. Bondi is a beautiful place to visit generally because of its perfectly formed sandy stretch of beach, but also because of the many bars and restaraunts in the area.
Whether yo want to relax or shop 'til you drop, it has it all and I would really recommend this place. It is also a lot of fun watching the surfers from a distance rather than going to one of the many surfing clubs and trying to look fetching in a wet suit, which lets face it, doesn't happen...
Our first day visiting Bondi consisted of a long, lazy day with a picnic on the beach, with the odd slide into the icy cold water to cool off our sizzled bodies (we also spotted a Whale travelling accross the horizon which was an amazing site which everybody stood up for) We then met up with friends when dusk set in and went for some civilised drinks in one of the many waterside bars. When I say civilised, this changed quite a bit when we got to our fourth bottle of Australian Red! We then ended up in Coogee (beautiful by day) But, still had a great night and managed to make it back safe and sound to Sydney where we were staying!!
I must admit after alcohol everything looks a million times more beautiful, but this place certainly cannot be missed by any tourists visiting Sydney. It is a lovely place to visit and along with the fantastic bars and restaurants there is still something for everybody to like about this place. Especially me, who thrived on the relaxed 'surfer' type atmosphere.
If you are planning to stay in Bondi, there are plenty of places to stay from 5* hotels to backpackers hostels. Shop about, it is a big place so let yourself be happy with where you stay because here, you certainly get what you pay for.
TIP: TAXI DRIVERS IN AUSTRALIA HAVE TO TAKE YOU TO YOUR REQUIRED DESTINATION. UN-LIKE TAXI DRIVERS IN ENGLAND, YOU ASK BEFORE YOU GET IN WHERE YOU ARE GOING AND THEY CAN REFUSE. YOU JUST GET IN THE TAXI IF THEY ARE ON SHIFT AND TELL THEM WHERE YOU ARE GOING.
